Therefore, the present data suggest for the first time a potential role of CDKN2A/2B/2BAS through a decreased expression in leukocytes in atherosclerosis risk and development in T1DM, which could facilitate a pro-atherogenic profile in these cells by generating proinflammatory monocytes and lower content of Treg cell content. This evidence concerns the gene CDKN2A and atherosclerosis.
