INS and Hypoglycemia: Our group and others have shown that even years after diagnosis of type 1 DM, viable beta cells are present and able to secrete at least low amounts of insulin.2, 3 Since residual beta‐cell function prevents complications such as retinopathy, nephropathy and hypoglycaemia,4 it is of great interest to preserve and enhance the function of these remaining insulin‐producing cells.
