It was reported in the literature that Helicobacter pylori, a risk factor for the development of gastric adenocarcinoma, modulates the expression of the E-cad coding gene CDH1 (Jacobs et al., 2011), and activates the calpain sheddase, generating sE-cad and inducing a relocalization of β-catenin (β-cat), an E-cad intracellular ligand (O'Connor et al., 2011). The gene discussed is CDH1; the disease is gastric adenocarcinoma.
