More recently, and in accordance with our findings, the knock down of glia maturation factor-γ (GMFG) in macrophages was shown to cause an iron-deficiency response and M2 macrophage polarization associated with reduced mitochondrial respiration chain components, ISCU, and basal oxygen consumption and an increased HIF response (Aerbajinai et al., 2019). This evidence concerns the gene GMFG and Iron deficiency anemia.
