A study conducted by Gupta et al. [22] in differentiating cirrhotic from noncirrhotic ascites had showed that ascitic fluid protein at cut-off value of 2.5 gm/dL had sensitivity of 76% and specificity of 100%, whereas ascitic fluid albumin at a cut-off value of 2 gm/dL had sensitivity of 82% and specificity of 100%. The gene discussed is ALB; the disease is Ascites.
