LEP and obesity disorder: Leptin is produced by white adipocyte tissue104 and is highly correlated with white fat energy stores.105 Leptin levels are elevated in fed animals, but are reduced upon fasting.106 The leptin receptor (LepRb) is a type I cytokine receptor coupled to tyrosine kinase.107 LepRb‐mutant mice are characterized by hyperphagia‐induced obesity, hyperlipidemia, and insulin resistance.108 In the brain, LepRb expression was reported in the cerebral cortex, hippocampus, thalamus, and in particular in the hypothalamus.109
