In particular, AgRP may serve as an endogenous antagonist of central MC4R, enabling synergistic effects of Y receptor activation and MC4R blockade in reducing anxiety‐related behaviors.153 In the CeA, activation of MC4R results in inhibition of N‐type calcium channels, reducing GABA release.154 Furthermore, pharmacological stimulation of MC4R resulted in intense activation of the amygdala, while antagonism of N‐type calcium channels led to a specific activation of the CeL subdivision. This evidence concerns the gene MC4R and Anxiety.
