TUFM and autoimmune disease: This region encompasses the entire SULT1A2 gene as well as the CCDC101 gene in which the associated SNPs are located, and is near other genes such as TUFM. This region contains SNPs which are associated with both obesity and body mass index (BMI)[51, 52] asthma [53], and autoimmune diseases like diabetes and inflammatory bowel disease; the inversion allele itself has been shown to be protective against the joint occurrence of asthma and obesity[54].
