In a comprehensive study investigating the effects of miR-210 in lung cancer, the authors show that miR-210 directly targets NDUFA4 and SDHD (by 3′UTR assays) resulting in decreased complex II activity, enlarged mitochondria with a modified organization of cristae and altered mitochondrial membrane potential (Puisségur et al., 2010). Here, SDHD is linked to lung carcinoma.
