CALB1 and spinocerebellar ataxia type 1: The alteration in calbindin-D28k has been reported to cause the disturbance of calcium balance in the cerebellar Purkinje cells of spinocerebellar ataxia type 1 (SCA1) transgenic mice [20] and in the hippocampal CA1 region and dentate gyrus granule cell layer of streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats [21].
