TIMP2 and acute kidney injury: A corresponding commercially available test kit has been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA).[11] TIMP-2 and IGFBP7 are both secreted under conditions of cellular stress during the early stages of tubular cell injury caused by various insults, including inflammation, ischemia, oxidative stress, drugs, and toxins.[12] These findings suggest that urinary TIMP-2 and IGFBP7 levels may have potential value in the early diagnosis of AKI.
