Perilipin‐2 (PLIN2) is the most abundant LD‐associated protein in macrophage foam cells 2, 3 and has been implicated in atherosclerosis since it is highly expressed in macrophage foam cells 3 and PLIN2 overexpression reduces cholesterol efflux from THP‐1 macrophages 4. This evidence concerns the gene PLIN2 and atherosclerosis.
