Pilecki et al11 demonstrated elevated levels of sMFAP4 in ovalbumin and HDM treated mice in an allergic asthma model, and that MFAP4 is upregulated in asthmatic bronchial smooth muscle cells promoting smooth muscle cell proliferation and migration by interactions with the α1β3‐integrin receptor.17 In a population including patients with chronic obstructive lung disease, Johansson et al18 found that plasma levels of MFAP4 increased with disease severity and in the months following an acute exacerbation.19 This evidence concerns the gene MFAP4 and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
