HBG2 and deep vein thrombosis: The change in the T1 relaxation time is caused by change in paramagnetic properties by accumulation of methemoglobin in fresh thrombus, which is formed from hemoglobin by the oxidation of Fe2+into Fe3+during the acute phase of DVT.6, 14Previous studies have shown that this high signal appears within 3 hours after thrombus formation and resolves completely after 6 months.6The same bright signal intensity can be visualized with the TSE-SPAIR sequence.
