Globally, it is the most commonly used method for clinical confirmation of HIV-1 infection (Centers for Disease Control [CDC], 2014; Liu et al., 2016; Kondo et al., 2018) and positive WB result is a prerequisite for antiretroviral therapy and laboratory follow-up including CD4 count and HIV-1 viral load test in many low- and middle-income countries. This evidence concerns the gene CD4 and HIV-1 infection.
