Mice deficient in Nur77 (also known as NR4A1), a transcription factor that is shown to be required for Ly6Clo monocyte differentiation and survival (Hanna et al., 2011), exhibit accelerated atherosclerosis in some studies but not in others (Hamers et al., 2012; Hanna et al., 2012; Chao et al., 2013). Here, NR4A1 is linked to atherosclerosis.
