In an attempt to assess the role of MDSCs in atherosclerosis, a study by Foks et al. (2016) utilized repetitive adoptive transfer of bone marrow CD11b+Gr1+ cells, from Ldlr−/− mice fed a WTD for 2 weeks and deemed to be MDSCs, into Ldlr−/− mice on a WTD for 6 weeks, demonstrating that these cell transfers reduce lesion size. Here, LDLR is linked to atherosclerosis.
