In melanoma cell lines, the HDAC 1 and 3 inhibitor suberoyl bis-hydroxamic acid (SBHA) is able, alone, to enhance TRAIL-induced cell death by coordinating the upregulation of the pro-apoptotic proteins caspase-8, caspase-3, Bid, Bak, Bax, and Bim, while downregulating at the same time the antiapoptotic proteins, Bcl-xL, Mcl-1, and XIAP [126,131,200]. This evidence concerns the gene BCL2L1 and melanoma.
