LPL and hypertriglyceridemia: Hypertriglyceridemia may result from abnormalities in peripheral lipolysis or from overproduction or impaired clearance of lipoprotein.10 Chylomicrons and very-low-density lipoproteins (VLDLs) are the major triglyceride-rich lipoproteins synthesized in the intestine and liver, respectively.11 Hydrolysis of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins is mediated by lipoprotein lipase (LPL), the major enzyme acting on core triglycerides of chylomicrons and VLDL.
