INS and Cognitive impairment: Several of the miRNAs identified in the analysis presented a significant reduction in expression, including miR-96, which is associated with an increased neuroinflammatory response [70]; miR-100 which regulates expression of major components of the mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR), transforming growth factor-β and insulin signalling pathways in brain endothelial cells [71]; miR-182 and miR-183 which regulate SUMOylation and act to preserve homeostasis under stress [72]; and miR-206, which is differentially expressed in patients with mild cognitive impairment, as recently reviewed [73].
