Liver damage and associated conditions like liver fibrosis and cirrhosis is known to create tumor-promoting microenvironment formed by chronic inflammation, and leads to activation of Hippo/YAP and other signaling pathways, ultimately causing hepatocellular carcinoma (Piersma et al., 2015; Kodama et al., 2018; Lu et al., 2018). This evidence concerns the gene YAP1 and hepatocellular carcinoma.
