Increased serum/plasma and CSF levels of some cytokines, such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α), interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL-8, and interferon-beta (IFN-β), have been detected in ALS patients when compared to controls (Ono et al., 2001; Mitchell et al., 2009; Fiala et al., 2010; Mitchell et al., 2010; Italiani et al., 2014; Ehrhart et al., 2015; Liu et al., 2015; Hu et al., 2017). The gene discussed is TNF; the disease is amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
