CD8A and infection: Although the majority of the peptides presented by HLA-C*12:02 were not observed to have elicited T cell responses during natural infection in our cohort, the previously documented ability of HLA-C-restricted CD8+ T cells to influence HIV-1 control suggests the potential utility of vaccine-mediated induction of T cell responses to these novel HLA-C-restricted viral epitopes to enhance the efficacy of prophylactic and/or therapeutic HIV-1 control.
