CD133 (PROMININ1), which is one of the general cancer stem cell (CSC) markers, has been reported to possess the ability to facilitate EMT in breast cancer and other malignant tumors (65), and Latorre et al. recently showed that the failure to form or stabilize a repressive complex consisted of MALAT1 and the RNA-binding protein HuR in breast cancer upregulates CD133 and leads to an EMT-like program with the increase of N-cadherin (44). This evidence concerns the gene PROM1 and cancer.
