MFGE8 and Alzheimer disease: MFG-E8 has been shown to bind amyloid-beta peptide (ABP) and facilitate ABP clearance by the glial cells to protect mice against the development of AD (Boddaert et al., 2007), even though in a mouse model of Parkinson’s disease, MFG-E8 deficiency did not impact of the clearance of apoptotic bodies (Kinugawa et al., 2013).
