In more severe cardiometabolic complications such as with myocardial infarction, a cross-sectional study with such subjects in cardiogenic shock, patients versus healthy controls showed higher MDA, conjugated dienes and reduced activities/concentrations of erythrocyte antioxidant enzymes, including SOD, CAT, GPx, erythrocyte and plasma GSH, as well as beta-carotene. This evidence concerns the gene SOD1 and myocardial infarction.
