Previously, we showed that treatment with mTOR inhibitor rapamycin in a dose-dependent manner decreases the incidence and severity of retinopathy in OXYS rats in the period of active manifestation of AMD signs (age from 1.5 to 3.5 months) and demonstrated the potential of the mTOR activity suppression strategy for the treatment and prevention of AMD [34].
