REST and bone neoplasm: The main physiological role of REST was initially considered to be in a suppression of neuronal genes in non-neuronal cells.6,31 While now REST is believed to play some important roles in several neural disorders and brain ageing, the expression of REST in healthy neurons is generally low.35,40 However, expression of REST in peripheral somatosensory neurons was shown to be elevated in neuropathic30,38,39,43 and bone cancer pain44 models.
