EGFR and non-small cell lung carcinoma: Around 15% of Caucasian and 40% of Asian non-small-cell lung cancer patients with epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation can be treated with targeted therapy; thus, the average survival of this patient group can be 24 to 30 months; however, most patients with advanced lung cancer receiving the standard platinum-based combination chemotherapy only survive about 12 months on average [4].
