The development of T1D was significantly ameliorated (p = 0.007) when T cells from CD101-expressing NOD.B6 Idd10 donors were transferred into NOD.B6 Idd10 scid as compared to NOD scid recipients indicating that in the presence of the CD101 protein encoded by the B6 Cd101 allele in the T cell compartment, the status of the Cd101 allele expressed by myeloid cells determines the level of protection from T1D (Fig 8A). Here, CD101 is linked to type 1 diabetes mellitus.
