Atx-2 is an RNA-binding protein related to neurodegeneration since mutations resulting in the expansion of a polyglutamine tract in the gene encoding ataxin-2 give rise to the neurodegenerative disorders spinocerebellar ataxia type 2 and Parkinson’s disease (Satterfield and Pallanck, 2006). This evidence concerns the gene ATXN2 and Parkinson disease.
