By inducing NEK6 inhibition and transcriptional activation of the P53-associated tumor suppressor genes, P21 and GADD45α, BBR induces cell death, G2/M cell cycle arrest, and tumor growth suppression in HCC cells; in contrast, miR-23a inhibition can attenuate these BBR-mediated functions (Wang N. et al., 2014). This evidence concerns the gene CDKN1A and hepatocellular carcinoma.
