CD177 and cancer: Proteolysis plays a major role in the function of cell surface receptors such as E-cadherin and receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) (Katayama et al., 1994; Merilahti et al., 2017; Okamoto et al., 1999), and dysregulation of proteolysis in these receptors is, for instance, linked to cancer pathogenesis (Arribas et al., 2011; Brouxhon et al., 2014; Katayama et al., 1994; Okamoto et al., 1999) and resistance to kinase inhibitor treatment (Colomer et al., 2000; Leitzel et al., 1995; Miller et al., 2016).
