Previous studies indicated that the expression of 45S pre‐rRNA, 28S, 18S, and 5.8S rRNA were increased in human primary prostate cancers and in C‐MYC‐driven cancers (Drygin, Rice, & Grummt, 2010; Uemura et al., 2012), while rRNA expression was suppressed in CD34+ cells derived from bone marrows of patients with myelodysplastic syndromes (Raval et al., 2012). The gene discussed is CD34; the disease is myelodysplastic syndrome.
