In the SN, in later periods, i.e., 8 and 12 weeks after diabetes induction, the protein level of the second most abundant myo-inositol transporter, HMIT, was also significantly decreased, and since this tissue lacks SMIT2 expression, we predicted that the transport of myo-inositol was likely to be significantly impaired in this tissue. This evidence concerns the gene SLC5A3 and diabetes mellitus.
