Figure 13C shows that a few numbers of effector CD8+ T-cells remain in proximity of the tumor during the simulation. However, these cells cannot eliminate the tumor cells because of the resistance acquired due to dormancy. Hence, they only maintain the tumor cells in a dormant state by producing type II IFN. The role of CD8+ T-cells in maintaining tumor cells in a dormant state was investigated in a previous in vivo experimental study (Farrar et al., 1999). The gene discussed is CD8A; the disease is neoplasm.
