Interestingly, albeit previous studies have argued that some of the MUCs should be excluded as cancer genes based on biological relevance (Lawrence et al., 2013), there is much evidence supporting the link between MUC12 and MUC16 and cancer development and evolution (Matsuyama et al., 2010; Yin et al., 2013; Felder et al., 2014; Wang et al., 2018). This evidence concerns the gene MUC16 and cancer.
