Recent studies have demonstrated that gp130, a transmembrane receptor, is also involved in regulation of IFITM expression (Bailey et al., 2012), suggesting that the gp130 agonist could be used in the treatment of viral diseases by inducing IFITMs and might avert the side effects of IFNs via bypassing IFN-regulated signaling. Here, IFNA1 is linked to viral infectious disease.
