The neuropathological hallmarks of Alzheimer's disease (AD) are extracellular amyloid-β (Aβ) plaques and the intraneuronal neurofibrillary tangles (NFT), which is primarily composed of hyperphosphorylated tau protein and is a predictor of cognition (1–3). This evidence concerns the gene MAPT and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
