Analysis of gene expression data from the TCGA breast cancer database showed that the R72 variant of mutant p53 was associated with increased expression of genes influenced by the metabolism master regulator PGC-1α, and we showed that this SNP alters the ability of mutant p53 to bind and inhibit PGC-1α and to induce Warburg metabolism. This evidence concerns the gene PPARGC1A and breast cancer.
