In agreement with all this evidence, we showed here that the intracellular oxidative stress levels were significantly increased as a result of HIF-2α -specific inhibition or silencing in colon cancer cells, particularly under nutritional stress and mTORC1 inhibition, suggesting that this may contribute in sensitizing cells to nutritional stress and to treatment with cytotoxic agents, and reinforcing the notion that HIF-2α plays an important cytoprotective role in cancer cells. The gene discussed is EPAS1; the disease is colonic neoplasm.
