Notably, axon guidance, NGF and EGFR signaling mechanisms share a number of genes that have been already demonstrated to play important roles in tumor development and progression, such as the regulatory subunits of the phosphoinositide 3-kinases, PI3Ks, a family of lipid kinases that coordinate several cellular functions including proliferation and survival and are deregulated in different cancer types, including pancreatic cancer [65,66]. This evidence concerns the gene EGFR and familial pancreatic carcinoma.
