The acquired myelodysplastic syndrome 5q‐, characterized by a deletion of a region of chromosome 5q, is also considered a ribosomopathy due to the presence of the RPS14 gene in the deleted region and the phenotypic recapitulation of much of the disease phenotype upon deletion of RPS14 alone (Barlow et al., 2010; Ebert et al., 2008). Here, RPS14 is linked to myelodysplastic syndrome.
