Previous study demonstrated that overexpression of IL-24 containing IL-24 inhibits cell proliferation and induces cell death in a variety of tumor cells (melanoma, cervix, lung, colon, breast, prostate, and human hepatocellular carcinoma), although having no effect on normal cells.[27–30] In addition, IL-24 induces apoptosis, with anti-tumor properties, including cell invasion and metastasis, direct bystander cytotoxicity, anti-angiogenic effects, chemotherapy, ability to make cancer cells sensitive to the therapeutic approaches of radiation, and therapeutic antibodies, been recognized.
