We have recently conducted a thorough analysis on HCC development under a standardized induction protocol using DEN injections in PML‐deficient, HCV‐transgenic mice.13 Our data suggested that PML deficiency increases susceptibility toward carcinogenic stimuli, that HCV promotes carcinogenesis in the liver, and that the oncogenic potential of HCV is supported by an inactivation of PML. This evidence concerns the gene PML and hepatocellular carcinoma.
