The inhibition of monosodium urate‐induced xanthine oxidase activity in human acute monocytic leukemia THP‐1 cells by a 50% ethanol extract of M. procumbens has been demonstrated (Jhang et al., 2016); this highlights the potential to improve hyperuricemia by the downregulation of xanthine oxidase activity in vivo. This evidence concerns the gene XDH and hyperuricemia.
