In fact, several studies have shown that anti-diabetic drugs targeting the glucagon-like protein 1 receptor [(GLP-1-receptor agonists and dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors (DPP-4i)] can mediate anti-stroke efficacy in animal models, and has been suggested to decrease the incidence of stroke in some clinical studies [reviewed in (21, 22)].
