CAMP and infection: The presence of CYP27B1 (Vitamin D activating enzyme) in macrophages is important for the physiological action of host defense against infection, activation of 25(OH) D to 1, 25(OH)2 D via CYP27B1 in macrophages leads to regulation of TLR2 (121), enhanced production of defensin β2, cathelicidin antimicrobial peptide (CAMP) (49) leading to induction of autophagy (122).
