FMO5 and chronic granulomatous disease: Since A. nidulans is only known to induce pathologies in patients with chronic granulomatous disease (CGD), characterized by an impaired NADPH oxidase complex, further investigations concerning the influence of NADPH oxidase revealed that cell-wall-bound galactosaminogalactans in A. fumigatus enhance resistance against NADPH-oxidase-dependent neutrophil extracellular damage.
