Myocardial apoptosis plays a vital role in pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases in the diabetes.7 It is known that PI3K/Akt pathway can inhibit apoptosis.8 When PI3K/Akt pathway is blocked in the heart of the diabetic rats, the protein expression of eNOS and mTOR which can regulate the level of apoptosis is reduced significantly.9, 10 Thus, exploring the underlying mechanism of how PI3K/Akt pathway is mediated and finding effective drugs which can target on cardiomyocyte apoptosis can alleviate the process of DCM. The gene discussed is AKT1; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
