The association is not merely based on the neuronal differentiation phenotype in cancer cells, but on a combination of data comprised of neuronal phenotype in cancer cells, the specific or enriched expression of hundreds (not just a few) of cancer promoting genes (including EZH2 and a few others in the present study) in normal neural progenitor/stem cells, the functions of these cancer genes in normal neuronal differentiation, as well as implications from other in vivo and in vitro cancer studies (e.g., those cited in the text). Here, EZH2 is linked to cancer.
