SOX2 and cancer: Sox2 encodes a high-mobility group (HMG) DNA-binding transcription factor with important roles in embryonic development (Kamachi and Kondoh, 2013; Lefebvre et al., 2007; Sarkar and Hochedlinger, 2013), embryonic and adult neural progenitors (Pevny and Nicolis, 2010), and the progression of many forms of cancer (Weina and Utikal, 2014; Wuebben and Rizzino, 2017).
